From the clinic
Why we opened a hydrogen clinic in Somerset
31 August 2026 · 5 min read · by Agnieszka & Piotr, H2 Clinic
If you have been searching for hydrogen therapy in Somerset and wondering how a molecular hydrogen clinic ended up in a village just outside Taunton, this is that story. H2 Clinic is run by the two of us, Agnieszka and Piotr, from Norton Fitzwarren. We opened it for a simple reason: we had become genuinely fascinated by molecular hydrogen, and there was nowhere near home to experience it.
What follows is the honest version of how that happened — why hydrogen, why here, who the clinic is really for, and why our whole approach fits into one sentence: we'd rather talk than sell.
A family business of exactly two people
There is no head office, no franchise manual and no marketing department. Between the two of us we do everything: the bookings, the sessions, the cleaning, the accounts and the kettle. If you email the clinic, one of us reads it and one of us replies.
We mention this not because small is automatically better, but because it shapes how the place feels. Nobody here works to a script, and nobody is paid commission to sell you anything. That suits us, and judging by the conversations we have had so far, it suits Somerset too.
How we found molecular hydrogen
Our route into this was reading, not a lightning-bolt moment. The more we read, the more surprised we were that such a simple molecule had such a long and odd history — we have written that up separately in the real history of molecular hydrogen, and it is a better tale than you might expect.
The modern chapter began in 2007, when researchers reported in Nature Medicine that hydrogen gas acted as a selective antioxidant in a rat model. That paper set off a wave of research into hydrogen and oxidative stress. It is worth being clear about the state of that research: much of it involves animals or small groups of people, many findings are preliminary, and the fairest summary is "interesting, early and incomplete".
Strangely enough, that caution is what won us over. We were not looking for miracle cures — we do not believe in them — but a field where careful scientists keep saying "promising, needs more work" felt worth exploring in person. To be plain: hydrogen therapy is not a medical treatment, and we never present it as one. If you have any health concern, please speak to your GP or another qualified healthcare professional.
Why Somerset, and why Norton Fitzwarren
The location was never a strategic decision. This is home. We live here, we shop in Taunton, and we wanted to build something for the community we are actually part of, rather than commute to a unit on a retail park somewhere.
There was also a practical gap. When we first wanted to try hydrogen therapy ourselves, the nearest places we could find meant a long drive. We are not the only curious people in this corner of the West Country, so we decided to become the local option we had been looking for.
Who the clinic is really for
Two kinds of people walk through our door most often, and we opened the clinic with both in mind:
- People in their fifties and beyond who take everyday vitality seriously — the ones who walk whatever the weather, guard their evening routine and like the idea of a quiet hour to themselves.
- Active people and sports enthusiasts — runners, cyclists, gym-goers and weekend team players — who have come across molecular hydrogen in their own reading and are curious to try a session for themselves.
As for what a visit is actually like: you sit in a comfortable chair, you breathe normally, and most people feel nothing dramatic during the session itself. Some read, some doze, some chat with us. If you are hoping for fireworks, we will disappoint you — we would rather tell you that now than after you have paid.
"We'd rather talk than sell" in practice
That phrase is not a slogan we bought from an agency; it is genuinely how we run the diary. In practice it means three things.
- Before you commit to anything, we would rather have a chat — free, unhurried and with no obligation. Ask us awkward questions; we enjoy them.
- We put our confidence in writing: complete a five-session package and if you have not felt the difference, your sixth session is free. The full terms are on our guarantee page.
- Nobody will ring you afterwards to "follow up on your journey". If you want to come back, you know where we are.
The practical bits
We are in Norton Fitzwarren, a few minutes from Taunton town centre. There is on-street parking near the clinic, everything inside happens on the ground floor (there are a few steps at the front door — tell us if they would be a problem and we will make arrangements), and we are open Monday to Saturday. Directions, opening hours and photographs are on the clinic page.
If you are weighing up a wellness clinic near Taunton and want the fuller local picture, our hydrogen therapy in Taunton page covers it. And when you are ready — or simply curious — you can book a session or a free chat. Either way, we would love to talk. That is rather the point.
